Introduction

A few months ago, we predicted that the next macOS would be called “Monterey” only to discover Apple’s revamped trademarks for different locations in California. The two renewed names were actually “Monterey” and “Mammoth.”

Consequently, we now know next year’s version of macOS will be called Mammoth, while Monterey was chosen for this year. So, what can we all expect to see in macOS Mammoth in 2022?

Read on and find all your answers. But, first, let’s start with:

The Name

We all can agree that Apple made an interesting choice with the name, so why not talk a bit about it first?

Mammoth Lakes, California, is a resort town near the Sierra mountains if you don’t already know. This town sits northeast of Monterey and is found right between Yosemite National Park and Sierra National Forest. And as you can guess, it’s in the same region as previous macOS names.

However, Apple’s trademark for Mammoth was first filed in March 2013 along with other macOS names. But, in this case, Apple has continuously changed it, as they want to use it for upcoming versions of macOS.
More specifically, Apple’s “Yosemite Research LLC” shell company revived the Mammoth name on May 1, 2021.

If you dig a little deeper, you can find that it’s currently active and listed under the goods and services category as “computer operating software.” This is pretty straightforward, but we’ll keep an eye for any potential trademarks Apple decides to stumble upon. For the moment, Mammoth is our best bet.

Revamped Desktop Widget

If you are a Mac user, you must know that widgets are currently hidden to the right of your screen along with your notifications. And every Mac user wants them to have their very own dedicated area on the screen from where you could easily access them. With macOS Mammoth, there is a considerable probability that Mac users will get to see it happening.

To make this transition even smoother, Apple is willing to add a feature where clicking on the widget icon in the dock could show and hide the widget on the screen. Furthermore, you will be able to position your devices anywhere you want to, even on multiple desktops using Mission Control.

Also, developers in Silicon Valley could try combining the aging stickies into the new widget system. Stickies can already be placed anywhere on the desktop and can be made to float on top of windows, the mammoth widget system could do the same thing.

Solution for Every Storage Problem

At some point in time, every Mac user has seen a “low disk space” warning on their Macs. This becomes even more problematic to the users when they can’t find ways to deal with this problem.

With that said, in older versions of macOS, which most Mac users should be using right now, this problem could easily be fixed. However, you would need the help of a third-party application known as Mac Cleaner that could help you find and remove junk or duplicate files that take up extra space on your device.

Here you can read more and find out a few other helpful ways to fix low storage issues on your device. Moreover, with a Mac cleaner, you can find solutions to all kinds of storage problems on your computer, making it one of the must-have apps on your device.

On the contrary, with macOS Mammoth developers are trying to solve this problem to the best of their abilities by adding features that won’t let users store duplicate files on their device. So, if the storage issue is something that keeps bothering you make sure you keep an eye on the upcoming macOS 13 update.

Spotlight + Siri

If you’ve been an old Mac user since the days of OS X Yosemite, you must have noticed that the spotlight’s design is the same for several years and Mac users are now eager to see some changes made to it. From what we have seen in the screenshots, they should transform the big diction button on the right side of the window into a Siri Button. Additionally, Mac users will be able to click on it and command Siri.

Making Home Movies With Clips

The videos we shoot with our iPhones have become an incredible way to make videos and create unforgettable memories. Although adding special effects to the videos on iPhone and iPad is nothing new, these additions might also come with the upcoming macOS Mammoth.

For someone who loves to edit their videos on a Mac, this simple add-on can work wonders. Moreover, it’ll be a lot easier and more fun to make changes when you have all the effects and transitions just a few clicks away on your device.

Also, you might be able to use your clips with Memoji and Animoji, a new home on the Mac. While Macs are still without LiDAR and TrueDepth modules, the latest cameras on iMac are pretty stunning, and we could guess that you could do some software mumbo-jumbo to make work even better. But this is forward-thinking, and by the time Apple releases its macOS 13, we may get Face ID Macs.

To Sum it Up

macOS 13 or macOS Mammoth is far away. But Apple users are already very excited about it and closely watching all the productive changes it could bring to their Mac experience. Here are some of the ideas that are pretty close to reality. So if you are a Mac user and waiting for these changes to happen, maybe your wait is finally over.
