Interview with Mateusz Olejnik, the CEO of MediRecord [2023]

Hi, my name is Mateusz Olejnik and I’m CEO and owner of MediRecord – the best mobile app to organize all health-related matters, like doctor visits, medical examinations history and plan future appointments. I am also a software developer for over 12 years and a father of 3 kids. In my work I’m dealing on a daily basis with high efficiency systems, big data and machine learning.  

Having a large family is like riding on a rollercoaster. You need to be prepared for everything that comes your way. For us the biggest struggle was always to keep all the medical data of our family in order. With many doctor appointments, many medical examinations results and many drugs prescribed it is easy to forget about something. Planning future appointments is a challenge as well and beyond the point that a regular calendar can handle. 

Then, there is a recent COVID pandemic, which showed how important it is to be able to have all your medical data always present with you. That’s why together with my Wife we came up with the MediRecord app idea.

In the MediRecord app you can keep all medical and vaccination appointments (we call them Visits) for you and your entire family. You will have an instant insight in the details such as prescription codes, diagnosis and medical recommendations, list of prescribed drugs and much more. 

It also helps arrange your home medicine cabinet and avoid purchasing another drug if you already have it – you will save money and take care of the natural environment. With MediRecord you can easily manage the dosage of your family’s medications, assigning individual doses to the time of day and to the person so that you don’t miss anything.

It most certainly does. Once MediRecord is installed on your phone you can forget about flipping through the contents of binders in search of Examinations results or Visits details from a few months or years ago. From now on, you can have them all at hand at all times in the app, available in the form of photos and descriptions, well sorted, cataloged and easy to find. No more carrying a briefcase of prints to each specialist or taking it on a trip, your whole family medical card will be with you wherever you are.

I always start the day with a plan in hand. I like when the week has its rhythm – I prefer working in the mornings, just after kids leave the house for school (working from home is ideal for me, a lot of time saved without the need to commute). Then I pick up my children from school and we go to some after-school activities, like training, swimming pool, acrobatics. Together with my wife we try to plan our day so that when she works, I have time with kids and when I work – she does take care of them. Weekends are the time for the entire family.

In the evenings I usually do some groceries or read books. I love swimming – I go to the swimming pool at least 2-3 times a week. It helps me keep my head fresh and my body in shape. 

I really enjoy the idea that I can do something good for the users of the MediRecord app, I can provide them with real value. This thought keeps me on the surface whenever I’m overwhelmed with tons of work that being a CEO brings. As I mentioned before, the sport is very important for me as well.  I think this is a crucial aspect of my everyday life as well.

I have a lot of experience with Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence technology. I am sure this field of science can bring a lot of value in the healthcare industry and I want to incorporate it into MediRecord as well. Not only can we search for the best time to fit the next doctor appointment, but also we can propose live changes to introduce healthy habits, analyze medical test results and suggest when doctor visits are needed or remind about upcoming medicine purchases. 

It is hard for a small player like our company to get recognised on the market, even with a good product. There are a lot of big fish in this sea, but their products are designed and dedicated to the hospitals, clinics and doctors. Our aim is to put the patient, not the doctor in the center. And thus we dedicated our product directly for patients, adjusting its price as well, to be affordable for every single person that would like to use our service.  

Talk to people, learn what their problems and needs are. Only after you understand them, try to propose something that will help solve their issues. 

I would like to bring MediRecord to the emerging markets, where the healthcare system is not as developed as in the western Europe or in the United States and Canada. I believe that with MediRecord we can improve the way people take care of their health and help them with storing and keeping their medical data always up to date and at their fingertips. In these uncertain times this is an undeniable advantage and a must.
