Interview with Stuart Verschoyle, the CEO of Digma [2023]

Q1) Hello Stuart, we are honored to have you with us. Could you please introduce yourself and provide a few insights about Digma? 

With over 16 years experience as a Frontend developer, working for digital marketing agencies across Surrey and London I decided to put my knowledge and expertise to use to create what I found to be most passionate about, Interactive videos. I wanted to create a business which will be at the forefront of this particular technology and help SME with making the most of their video content. Created over the pandemic, I knew that small companies may want to recycle their video content and what better way than to make it interactive and give it a complete makeover.

Born and raised in Guildford, I found myself interested in IT at around 11 years old at school many moons ago. Even more so when I was first introduced to the “world wide web” when I was first shown it by my godfather who is paralysed from the neck down from an unfortunate trampolining accident. He had been given special software and hardware so he could use the internet and communicate with the outside world even though he was stuck at home. Because of this I studied computing at college, moved to Bournemouth to study Multimedia communications at University and found my interest in website development and human computer interaction. My dissertation was based around my godfather on creating user friendly computer software for those with disabilities.

Being able to create something that the whole world could see was an amazing concept to me as I like to show off my work. The internet is the best platform for this. I also realised that it made good money too 🙂

I want to try and make a difference in the technology world for creating something unique.

Q4) As the CEO of Digma, I’m sure you have a busy work schedule. So, how do you strike a work-life balance while also taking care of your family and friends?

With difficulty 🙂 Working from home has made a difference though. Not having a commute has added an extra couple hours to my day, so now instead of getting up at 7 to take the train, I look after my child. Then dedicate a full days work to my computer and spend the evening with my family. Getting older friends are far and few between, but have the occasional meet up with old school friends which I find very important to keeping happy in life.

Q5) Which aspects of your role as CEO of Digma do you most admire? What strategies do you use to keep a positive work environment?

I enjoy being my own boss and partnering with my old friend I have known for so long. We keep constant communication between us which is very important now we both work remotely.

Q6) What other technological tools do you intend to implement in your office?

None, all we need is our macs and love for new and innovative technologies.

Q7) What are some of the problems you’ve had with your content creation tool, and how do you deal with market competition?

We found that many of our clients needed bespoke plugins and tools for the interactive videos and images, so we love getting feedback to improve our product for everyone.

There is some market competition but we wanted to differ from them by putting a group of applications in one. Many marketers need a form builder, qr code generators and short links so we thought it would be a good idea to join them with our interactive videos and images to create a suite that holds all of these in one place.

Q8) What advice would you provide to budding entrepreneurs and programmers who want to create a content creation tool for users to rank their ideas on market but aren’t sure where to start?

Be patient, and improve your product all the time to keep ahead of the times as technology moves quickly.

Q9) What is your five-year goal for Digma?

To become a name in the digital creation industry and be the ‘canva’ of interactive content
